Studio Crawl & Social

surface 51The weather on Saturday, April 25th may have stopped the marathon but it didn’t keep CUDO Members and Friends from coming together for two wonderful events!

Have you ever wondered just what it is the design professionals in the Champaign-Urbana area do? For the past three years the CUDO Studio Crawl has been giving CUDO Members and Friends an inside look. This year we had a wonderful tour that brought together some crawl alumni as well as some new studios.

This year’s schedule:
1:00pm – SURFACE 51
2:00pm – Dixon Graphics
2:30pm – The Living Letter Press
3:30pm – David Michael Moore, Illustrator
4:00pm – Norden – German Design Studio

Starting off the tour, SURFACE 51 gave us the inside scoop on what they have been up to. Al Fleener and his talented team llpwere very welcoming and showed us just what SURFACE 51 does from web design to environmental design.

Next on the tour we headed over to Dixon Graphics where Lance Dixon showed us a printer that is capable of printing pieces longer than people are tall and we got to see “under the hood” of the large digital printer.

dmmAt The Living Letter Press, John Bonadies showed us all of the amazing things that his different Letter Presses can do and he even let us each pull our own prints.

Then we headed over to [co][lab] and met David Michael Moore. He explained what he does as a graphic facilitator and also talked to us about his “alter ego” with his illustrated retweets.

nordenLast but not least, we headed to Norden – German Design Studio to talk with Anna and Johann. They talked to us about what sets Norden apart and how they are bringing German design to the Midwest. The group also got to take home one of their wonderful Cherry Pit Heating/Cooling Pads so we will always have a little piece of Norden with us.

One would think that after touring all of the magnificent studios all day that would be all, but CUDO decided that Design Month 2015 needed to go out with a bang. Tons of people came through [co][lab] to help us celebrate at the first ever CUDO Design Month Social. There was pizza catered by Pizza M, gourmet doughnuts by Pandamonium Doughnuts, drinks, and friends. CUDO definitely ended Design Month 2015 the right way.
