UX Book Club of Champaign-Urbana would like to invite you to a Skype chat with Luke Wroblewski on Monday January 9th at 6:45pm at the M2 Enclave in Downtown Champaign.  Luke was both a student and teacher at the University of Illinois before heading West and taking on bigger and better things (eBay, Yahoo, etc.). Following the hour-long Skype chat, we’ll likely adjourn to a downtown drinking establishment for further conversation.

Importantly, you DO NOT have to have read the book to attend. So far, about half of the attendees at each meeting have the read book. We’ve ranged from 5-12 participants, and when we’ve had 8 or more participants, we’ve divided into two groups so everyone has a chance to talk (and hear).

Thursday, November 3rd PechaKucha Night returns to Champaign-Urbana with another lightning round of presentations from brilliant (and eclectic) minds. This time we’ll be gathering at the William M. Staerkel Planetarium at Parkland College to see nine diverse speakers tell their stories and share their passions.

On Wendesday, Oct 26 you’ll have the chance to meet Kurt Bielema – local freelancer and all-around great guy.

Kurt runs Single Stereo (http://singlestereo.com/), a studio of one in Urbana specializing in creative direction for web, print, and exhibit design. His talk will be held in room C118 at the campus and is open to the public. The U of I’s School of Art and Design Visitors Series and designmatters5 presents Emily Pilloton of Project H on Monday, September 26th, at 5:30pm. The topic: Design. Build. Transform. Admission? Totally free.

Emily Pilloton is the Founder/Executive Director of Project H Design, and High School Instructor of Studio H in rural North Carolina. Trained in architecture at the University of California at Berkeley and product design at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Emily believes in the process of design beyond just the product, launching Project H to empower communities and apply design outside of the design bubble to global issues that matter. Former Managing Editor of Inhabitat.com, writer, California girl, and unwavering optimist, Emily is also a PopTech social innovation fellow and has presented at TEDGlobal and at dozens of other forums.

Every year, hundreds of designers and a slew of the world’s leading paper mills gather to share what’s new and wonderful in the world of paper. If you’re in Chicago Oct 4, we definitely recommend checking it out. There’ll be lots of swag, a keynote on paper folding, snacks, and 3 design exhibitions: The Chicago 50, TYPEFORCE 2, and Design to Print.

Admission is $10, and all proceeds benefit Marwen, a nonprofit that offers free, arts-based youth development programs for under-served Chicago students.
