Live entertainment venue & production company currently seeking qualified candidates for a graphic & web designer position in Urbana-Champaign. Qualified candidate should have experience in both graphic art/design and website design and maintenance — with experience using applications such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator) and HTML/coding experience for the web.

Self-motivator and time-management skills a plus as this position has lots of different aspects and areas to cover. College degree not required, but a definite plus. Ideal candidate will be available during normal daytime hours. Position varies from 30-40 hours a week. Web Development Specialist :: Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology

The Communications group at the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign seeks applicants to fill one (1) Web Development Specialist position. The Web Development Specialist is responsible for the planning, design, and production of the Beckman Institute website, Intranet, and digital signage. This person should be energetic and highly motivated to take the Beckman Institute Web site to the next level.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and develop the overall design of the Beckman Institute website, Intranet, and digital signage
  • Develop new ideas to improve the functionality, appearance, and accessibility of the web site
  • Design graphics for the web pages and multimedia content
  • Create dynamic web pages and web-based electronic forms utilizing advanced web-related languages and techniques including JavaScript, ASP.NET, PHP, CSS, AJAX, and flash
  • Collaborate with database programmers to maintain and expand database driven websites and web applications
  • Participate in campus-wide events for web authoring community
  • Optimize web page content to improve search engine rankings
  • Assist with utilizing social media
  • Provide website traffic reports and analytics that will be used for future site improvements and modifications
  • Assist research groups with the web site design
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science or related field, with a minimum of two years proven experience. Alternative degree fields will be considered/accepted if accompanied by equivalent experience (depending on nature and depth of experience as it relates to this position).
  • Demonstrated experience in website coding and providing web-based content
  • Programming skills especially in HTML, ASP.NET, JavaScript, CSS, Flash, SQL, AJAX and/or PHP
  • Familiarity with Windows and Macintosh operating systems
  • Familiarity with user testing across multiple platforms and browsers
  • Knowledge of web accessibility standards
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and good communication skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficiency in PhotoShop, Illustrator, and InDesign
  • Experience with the selection, installation, and maintenance of content management systems
  • Web authoring software, preferably Dreamweaver and/or Visual Studio/Visual Web Developer

The Web Development Specialist is a full-time, benefits-eligible Academic Professional position. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
