Pecha Kucha Night is an international phenomenon where artists, designers, and creative minds come together for a live, high-energy extravaganza. The Pecha Kucha format, 20 slides for 20 seconds each, allows 8-16 presenters only 6 minutes and 40 seconds each to strut their stuff. This keeps presentations concise and the interest level up.

Every year Unisource takes over a ballroom at the Hilton Chicago and showcases hundreds and hundreds of paper samples and swatchbooks, which (amazingly) you can take home with you. Unisource is the largest paper distributor in the midwest and will have 15 of the world’s finest paper mills represented at the show. Remember those rockin’ samples at Pecha Kucha? Well, this is a whole ballroom full of them. We’ve been to the event and it’s fab!

Food, design, and literature? Definitely a knock-out combo in our books. From their website: “Around the world on April 1st bibliophiles, book artists, and food lovers gather to celebrate the book arts and the (literal!) ingestion of culture. Participants create edible books that are exhibited, documented then consumed.”

We’ve organized a couple fun new events, posted an online membership application and survey, and started putting our board together.

We are also caravanning up to Chicago for Pecha Kucha Night Volume #8! Still wondering what this Pecha Kucha thing is all about? Join us this Tuesday, March 3rd as we make our way out to Martyrs in Chicago to see some talented folks present their work in 6 minutes and 40 seconds each. More info on our events page.

Thanks again for all your enthusiasm and support since our kick-off on Friday. We hope to see you at one of our events!

We couldn’t be happier. Friday’s event confirmed what we had suspected and hoped for when we started CUDO: that a LOT of designers in Champaign-Urbana and the surrounding areas have a strong desire for community. And that they’re excited about what we’re doing, and are willing to step up and be involved in whatever capacity they can.

We had a turnout of over 115 people (!), and many emails from people who wanted to make it but weren’t able to. We initially expected about 50, so I think it’s safe to say the event was a huge success!  We also raised $450 in memberships and merchandise sales, which will help us substantially as we start with our programming endeavors.

Thank you to everyone who came out! We had a fantastic time and were overwhelmed with the enthusiasm and support that you all showed (even though we had a few technical glitches. . .).

Over the next few days we hope to get in touch with everyone who expressed an interest in getting more involved. We’re also going to post more details about upcoming events, specifically the board game social and Chicago Pecha Kucha trip. There’s lots to do and we’re ready to start planning more events and put together a rockin website.

It’s wonderful to see this organization finally come to life.
